Tendril Dress
This bias cut dress is wonderfully simple to sew and flattering for all shapes. This classic silhouette can be worn throughout the year. Make it in a light color for your classic summer dress to be worn with sandals and a sun hat. Or try it in a darker color and pair it with tights, boots and a cozy sweater for the winter months. We also love it as a blank slate for any kind of natural dyeing or surface design projects!
While the pattern seems simple with only two pieces, it’s also a good introduction to advanced techniques including sewing on the bias, bias facing, and French seams.
Skill Level: intermediate
Sizes: 37"-47" bust*
Yardage: 2-2.25 yards** of 55" wide fabric
* Due to bias cut and drape of fabric, 3” of ease is recommended. In the photos, Kristine is wearing a size 41" with 3" of ease.
** This pattern is intended to be sewn using a plain weave, 55” wide, 100% linen fabric. We have been using Robert Kaufman’s Antwerp and have found it wonderful to work with. If you are using an alternate fabric please be aware that the yardage requirements may be different, and the fit and drape of your garment will be altered. You should always make a fit muslin to test any substitutions in fabrication and any alterations to the pattern.
